Ones to Watch brings you the winners of last night’s Guardian Media Awards:
Publication of the Year
York Vision – (University of York) – Ones to Watch’s publication of the month for October, York’s tabloid-esque newspaper has been running since 1987.
Runner-up – Mouth (Kingston University) – a magazine produced by MA Magazine students at Kingston
Website of the Year
Redbrick (University of Birmingham) – Ones to Watch’s publication of the month in August for its exclusive coverage of the Birmingham riots, Redbrick’s website is constantly updated and a source of news for both students and locals
Runner-up – The Student Journals (founded by University of Warwick students) – a national student journalism website and Ones to Watch’s publication of the month for September.
Reporter of the Year
Simon Murphy (Newcastle University) – former news editor of The Courier (and briefly editor before turning down the job to start an MA course at City University), Simon’s work includes investigation into management expenses and the cost of honorary degrees.
Runner-up – Lizzie Porter (Oxford University) – editor of The Oxford Student. Her work includes covering Michelle Obama’s visit to Oxford and interviewing Polly Toynbee.
Feature Writer of the Year
Jamie Ross (St Andrews University) – Jamie’s blog on his experience of living with cancer was picked up by the Independent in 2009. His new “non-cancerous blog” is online here.
Runner-up – Alex Dymoke (Oxford University) – previously joint editor of The Isis magazine.
Columnist of the Year
Rhiannon Williams (University College London)
Runner-up - Charlotte Hogarth-Jones (University of York) – see her work here.
Critic of the Year
Rachel Aroesti (Durham University) – co-editor of the arts and features supplement Indigo for Durham’s Palatinate. Rachel’s work includes a review of semi-reality TV shows, such as Made in Chelsea and a preview of the BBC programme Candy Cabs including a chat with the show’s creator.
Runner-up - Daniel Barrow (University of Warwick) – writing for The Boar, see Daniel’s work here.
Photographer of the Year
Rajan Zaveri (SAE Institute London) – a graduate of Newport University with a BA in Documentary Photography. See Rajan’s website here.

Digital journalist of the Year
Joseph Stashko (University of Central Lancashire) – Joseph has been editing Blog Preston since 2010. An example of one of his blog posts can be found here.
