Ones to Watch’s final choice of 2011 is the University of Nottingham’s Impact magazine.

Specialising in features, Impact has published a wide range of hard-hitting investigations and light-hearted entertainment.

Since the start of December, three of the six features selected from student publications nationwide to be featured on Ones to Watch were from Impact. These include a series on depression in men, a detailed investigation into prostitution in Nottingham and a comment piece on the widening education attainment gap.

Comment pieces on sexism against men and whether controversial speakers should be allowed on campus also sparked furious debate on the publication’s website. More light-hearted offerings include discussion on drunken travel tattoos and the Blagger’s Guide section.

The tongue-in-cheek good news/bad news page is always entertaining, its sports section is regularly updated with interesting comment and interviews, and Impact publishes a huge range of reviews and arts articles, including running its own writing competition.
