There’s no denying that Murray’s form of late in the build up to Wimbledon has been uncharacteristically poor. The Scot’s shock second round defeat to Nicholas Mahut at Queen’s Club last week is certainly not what Murray would’ve wanted, and this defeat was compounded by a straight sets loss to Novak Djokovic in a pre-Wimbledon practice match at The Boodles on Thursday. These failures mean Murray is yet to win any of his grass-court matches this season so far – not an encouraging statistic just days before the start of the championships.
If it wasn’t looking bleak enough already for Murray with poor form and a niggling back problem, the draw for Wimbledon has been typically unkind, with a tough first round encounter against Nikolay Davydenko and a potential semi-final against that man Rafael Nadal – the immovable object who has thwarted Murray’s progress at Wimbledon for the past two years…
