Danny Boyle’s long awaited opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics welcomed the world to London through an explosion of colour, music and comedy which cooked up a serious feeling of British patriotism across the nation.
The three-hour spectacle brought surprises and twists throughout as Rowan Aktison brought his character Mr Bean out of hiding to join the London Symphony Orchestra in a comical remediation of Chariots of Fire and Muhammad Ali made an appearance to mention but a few, however arguably the best moment of the night was the Queen’s entrance to the Olympic stadium…
